A man hoping to become the next president of the United States has a strong local tie right here in Bowling Green.

Bowling Green Ophthalmologist, Dr. Rand Paul, just returned from New Hampshire where he was campaigning for his father, Republican presidential hopeful, Ron Paul.

We talked with Dr. Paul about his dad's campaign and the congressman's big announcement that aired on World News Tonight on Oct. 3.

Dr. Rand Paul said he's amazed at the number of supporters his father, Congressman Ron Paul, has gained in the presidential race.

"I think the word is spreading. I won't even bring it up with a patient in the office and they'll bring it up and they will have heard about him through friends or through the Internet," Dr. Paul admitted.

The Internet is how many people, especially the young college crowd, have learned more about Ron Paul, and have shown their support.

Dr. Paul said there's one big issue getting them involved in this campaign.

"I think it's the war issue. Ron Paul is the only candidate on the Republican side that says we should end the war," he explained.

Congressman Paul talked about his opinion on getting out of the war.

"Just come home. We just marched in, so we can just come back," he explained in an interview.

On Oct. 3, Ron Paul's campaign revealed it had raised $5-million in the third fundraising quarter--something his son says is a huge boost to the campaign.

"This is double what we raised in the second quarter, and more importantly, we now have $5-million in hand, which is more than John McCain and nearly as much as a couple of the more well-known names that you've heard in the Republican primary," Dr. Paul assured.

Still, he said there's a lot to be done before the primary elections, especially since some states are having them earlier this year than before.

"Thirty states will be done by February 12 and it's hard for a candidate with less name identification like my father to get things rolling as fast," Dr. Paul admitted.

He said in order to do this, his father will continue hitting the campaign trail to gain money and support and using the Internet to help spread the word of what he stands for.

"We just want the message out there. The multiplying effect the message has once it gets out on the Internet is just phenomenal," he explained.

Dr. Paul added that his father has over 900 meeting groups across the country and over 50,000 volunteers.

They hope to start an organization in Kentucky over the next months to support Congressman Ron Paul.

He said they will also be holding a campaign rally on Oct. 6 in Nashville with Ron Paul at the War Memorial Auditorium.

The campaign rally will be from 1 to 3 p.m.

Ron Paul wants to stop the war on drugs & all the crime & violence that runs with it. 60,000 shot & 17,000 murdered every year in America. My son was one of them. www.flybenji.org

Glad to see fair and unbiased reporting on Ron Paul. Kudos for not jumping in bed with the mainstream media's censorship efforts of Ron's campaign. I had lost all faith in politicians until hearing about RP and thoroughly educating myself on his views and voting history. If anyone reading this has not done so, you can get a fairly thorough rundown of Ron Paul on wikipedia, or directly from his campaign website www.ronpaul2008.com. Share what you find out with others. Most importantly, he *needs* your financial support. If you truly believe in his message, and want to see positive change in your lifetime, you have to put your money where your mouth is. Donations should be made directly at www.ronpaul2008.com. If you're uncomfortable just handing over money, purchases from the site store go towards the campaign. Again, thank you for your fair report of Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is our only hope. I was a devout democrat till I heard of Ron Paul and what he believes in. He is wanting to bring what made this Great nation Great {back to reality). That is the CONSTITUTION AND OUR BILL OF RIGHTS. He stands for all that I believe in.I support him 100% on my websites, blogs and bullentins. He has my vote and as I spread the word of him , I have helped to educate some people on Ron Paul. The government fears him. This is so evident. I have done vast research on all candidates worth researching. I AM A EDUCATED VOTER.Bring our troops home Ron. Help Americans take America Back.

I have voted Democrat in the past elections but I am voting for Ron Paul in the coming presidential election. After hearing about Ron Paul from a buddy who was president of my high school's Republican Club and doing some serious research on him and the issues, I came to discover that I was a classic liberal who believed in Ron Paul's, the Libertarian-Republican, message of more freedom and power to the people and less to federal government politicians and bureaucrats. He is the only true candidate for peace, prosperity, and ethics. I've never been so passionate and trusted a politician enough to donate my money to until I came upon Ron Paul. He is the best remedy to curing our country and someone who can heal the rifts between liberals, conservatives, libertarians, greens, independents, etc. I've found that his supporters are a varied bunch (socio-economically, politically) but they all share the desire for more freedom and liberty in their lives.

I have voted democrat all my life but am voting for you this time, I agree on just about all your issues, would like to know how you would fix health care, we know whats wrong with it how would you fix it? keep up the good work and bring back values to America, thank you

I too have been a registered Democrat since I first became eligible to vote in 1972. I am now in the process of changing my registration to Republican so that I can vote for Ron Paul in the Florida presidential primary. I too had never given money to any candidate for president until now when I gave money to Ron Paul. I am very excited about Ron Paul's candidacy and I hope this excitement spreads nationwide and that Ron Paul becomes our next president.

Go get em Dr. Paul, you are a true American.

Ron Paul supporters are NOT mainly college kids. I am 45, my Dad is 70, my uncle is 73 and we all will support Ron Paul to our last breath. Dr. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate in the 2008 Presidential Race who has NOT violated, repeatedly, the USA Constitution. Do your homework and you will see that NO OTHER candidate is even remotely honest. And Rudy Giuliani cannot even be president as Article One, Section Nine PROHIBITS people holding honorary titles from foreign countries from holding office of public trust. Giuliani was knighted by the Queen of England in 2002 for his "role" in 911. He cannot even be president without congressional approval yet he runs as if he already has it. Dr. Ron Paul is the ONLY Pro-Life candidate that has even half a chance. he will protect our 2nd amendment rights and END THE IRS. What more do you want?

Thanks for this post, I'm very excited for Dr. Paul, We finally have a candidate the common average american wants, even our soldiers want in office, but major media outlets are still in denial at his potential..this Ohioan is happily giving support to mr. paul where ever there's an open ear.

Ron Paul is a true conservative who believes in limited government, lower taxes, personal liberies, and a strong military for DEFENSIVE purposes, etc.

Thank you for the well balanced, non opinionated article. I rarely see something like this on TV anymore; I wish we had someone like you in our area!

Of all the canidates, Ron Paul has the history and the values to be president. It is sad that our media is not following him more closely. Even his fundraising numbers have gone unreported in recent weeks.. Over 1 million dollars raised in 7 days.. not one major publication or news media in my area even cared to mention it in a foot note.

I send my support to WBKO for offering this unbiased coverage of Ron Paul. Good job. Thank you for fulfilling your journalistic duties.

I have my daughter and grandson and his wife there in Ky. We all support RON PAUL and are always thrilled to hear any station that is willing to help get the word out. We have a choice this election. No more the better of two evils. RON PAUL is good and will be a wonderful President. Thank you for your interview with his son Rand. I only hope and pray that other stations will follow your awesome lead. Much aloha, cindy davis

Thank you for doing the story! I'm a volunteer with the Paul campaign. Dr. Ron Paul cured my apathy! It's about liberty and returning to our founding principles. I would love to move to Kentucky.

Thank you for the great piece on Ron Paul. He is a man of integrity and is the ONLY candidate (DEM or REP) that will roll back the size of government and the infringement of our civil liberties. A few things about Ron: He has never voted to raise taxes. He has never taken a paid junket. He voted against the Iraq war. He gives a portion of his Congressional budget back every year. He does NOT participate in the lucrative Congressional pension. He is the REAL DEAL and has never wavered or "flip-flopped" on the issues. He is Pro-Life and Pro 2nd Amendment He has been married to the SAME lady for 50 yrs. In my 22 years as a voter I have never been so excited about a Candidate that I would actually give them money, but Congressman Paul has changed that. Check him out for yourself www.ronpaul2008.com Then come join us and help spread the word www.meetup.com In Liberty, Michelle Casas

Thanks for the great article. My family are huge supporters of Ron Paul for President and doing everything we can to support the cause. I urge all other Ron Paul supporters to get out there and spread the word as fast as you can. The establishment will try to suppress democracy in any way they can so it's up to us to make a difference.

Ron Paul is the BEST hope we have to save the America we know and love.

After meeting Dr. Ron Paul and seeing him speak in New Hampshire last week, I heard about this interview with his son and came to check it out. I am very impressed and believe that local reports like this mean more than journalism on a larger scale that can have an apparent agenda. Thank you for your fair and balanced reporting and coverage of the great Statesmans Dr. Paul and his supportive family. Regards, Corie Whalen

Ron Paul has such a beautiful message of freedom. I want everyone to have a chance to hear it before the primaries. Thanks for helping spread the word. Ron Paul 2008!

I certainly hope that Ron Paul gets a fair chance in this race. As others have commented, I think he is the only viable option to vote for in this presidential election. We need a resposible person with values, not a career politician that lies through his/her teeth.

I'm a Canadian living in Asia and I'm excited about the possibility of a Ron Paul presidency. I would love to see a man I respect in the office of the president right next door to the country that I call home. PS I love these small city news shows. So charming. PPS Please start using Celsius for temperatures so I can stop doing the conversion in my head every time *^^*

Very good article, thank you. I was a hard line Democrat until I did my research on Ron Paul. I am now fully convinced that this is the guy we need in the Presidency. His Congressional voting record is what impressed me the most. It says a lot about a man that has stuck to his core values & beliefs for ALL of his political career. His approach to things is pretty simple, yet brilliant at the same time. I think politicans these days have too much self-interest and and are indebted to many lobby's and BIG money sponsors. This is the first time in my 30 years of being a voter that I have ever given money to a campaign & decided to get active for an election. Ron Paul's message is clear, to the point & much needed for this country right now. I would hate to see a leader of this quality lost, while we still have a voice in America. Thanks again & keep up the fair journalism that so many other news media have seemed to have lost touch with. I'll tell others & subscribe to your on-line paper.

Awesome, thanks for the coverage. I thinks it's great that his family is so supportive...I think it says a lot about candidates when their families are out there stumping with them.
