An area teacher is being recognized as the star of not only her class but the entire state.
Donna Carrier of Oakland Elementary was awarded the No Child Left Behind American Star of Teaching Award. The award goes to teachers who have been successful in improving a school's academic performance.
Oakland's principal, Mike Taylor, says Carrier developed a new history program called History Alive. He credits the school's higher state tests scores to the program and Carrier.
Carrier was the only teacher in Kentucky to receive the national award.
