The ongoing lawsuit between the city of Bowling Green and former Covention Center Board member Steve Catron will head to mediation next month. That's the word City Commissioners received last night during an update from Louisville attorney Gregg Hovious, who is representing the city in the suit.
The city is seeking the refund of more than $700,000 in public money that Catron allegedly misspent or overbilled.
Circuit Judge Steve Wilson overruled a motion by Catron's attorneys earlier this summer to dimiss the case, and dismiss Catron's wife from the suit.
Hovious says Judge Wilson has granted several motions to compel the Catrons to turn over financial records so that Hovious can "trace the money." Those documents are due by October 4.
A mediation between attorneys for both sides is set for October 22, that's when the possibility of avoiding a trial will be discussed.
"They take a very defensive posture, but my view is if they were not open to settlement, they would not be coming to mediation. I expect to see them there," Hovious said.
