A Monroe County man is now charged with murder in connection with the weekend death of a Tompkinsville teenager. Forty-three-year-old Billy Melton has been in jail on a rape charge since fourteen year old Jodi Pace died last weekend, but until today, he wasn't charged with murder.
State Police say Pace was found unresponsive in Melton's county home Saturday morning. She was pronounced dead a short time later at the Monroe County Medical Center. State Police say Pace went to Melton's house with a girlfriend Friday night meeting up with Melton and another woman. They say the four started taking prescription drugs when Pace overdosed.
Another woman is now coming forth saying she was raped that night also. In addition to the murder charge, a Monroe Grand Jury indicted Melton on two counts of rape and two counts of unlawful transaction with a minor.
Melton remains behind bars. His bond was revoked today. He'll be back in court October 20.
According to past records he's been charged with other offenses in Cumberland, Russell, Warren and now Monroe County dating back to 1991. Some of the charges include sexual and child abuse, rape, assault, and unlawful imprisonment.
