Hodgenville, Ky. continues its preparations in honoring one of our country's former leaders.
A group of West Coast artists won a contract to sculpt a bronze statue of former President Abraham Lincoln to stand near his hometown in Kentucky.
The Daub Firmin Sculpture Group located in San Francisco plan to sculpt the statue of a young Lincoln, barefoot and lounging against a stump.
The sculpture is one of four bronze reliefs depicting periods in Lincoln's life.
All four statues will be placed near the Hodgenville Town Square.
The Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission funded the $165,000 project.
Under the deal with the Larue County Chamber of Commerce, the piece must be installed by May 1.
