Former WKU President Involved in Serious Car Crash

A former WKU president and his wife have been seriously injured in a head-on collision in Charleston, SC.

WBKO has learned Tom Meredith and his wife Susan were involved in an accident last night on Interstate 26, one person was reportedly killed.

Meredith currently serves as chancellor of the University of Georgia system, and served as WKU's president from 1988-1997.

According to Tom Hiles, WKU's Vice President of Development, Meredith was struck head on after a vehicle crossed the median. Hiles says Dr. Meredith has some broken bones, but his wife's injuries are more severe. The family has requested no contact until after the holidays. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
