Two men are dead after family members say they went searching for scrap metal in an abandoned mine.
Harlan County officials say 41-year-old Ricky Dixon and 19-year-old Kevin Dixon had gone into the mine in search of scrap metal to sell.
Officials say the father and son entered the Bullhorn Mine in Harlan County around 2 p.m. Nov. 10.
Their vehicle left near the coal mine's entrance.
Medical officials say the men were overcome by a lack of oxygen in the mine.
"No one should go in. If there's anything in there it would've been brought out when they closed the mine," explained Dan Mosley, director of Emergency Management.
The father and son went into the mine on Nov. 10 and searchers found their bodies Nov. 11.
