Incarcerated Women Ask Governor Fletcher For Clemency

A group of women convicted of killing their husbands and boyfriends are seeking pardons or clemency from Governor Ernie Fletcher.

An attorney for the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy says the women were convicted of manslaughter or murder after long histories of domestic violence, and should be exonerated.

A petition sent to Governor Fletcher says the justice system failed to consider whether the women had acted in self-defense against their abusers.

A total of nine incarcerated women are asking for clemency.

Nine other women who have already been released are requesting full gubernatorial pardons.
