Indiana Congresswoman Diagnosed With Terminal Lung Cancer

Congresswoman Julia Carson of Indianapolis is in a fight for her life.

The six-term Democrat told an Indiana newspaper that she has terminal lung cancer.

The 69-year-old congresswoman was preparing to return from a leave of absence because of a leg infection when her doctor diagnosed the cancer.

Carson's chief of staff announced that because of her health, she won't run for re-election.

Carson was the first black, and first woman to represent Indianapolis in Congress when she was elected in 1996.
