An area firefighter is hoping to help families that lost a firefighter on Sept. 11. John Weatherbee of the Bowling Green Fire Department along with his father hope to make 343 bronze statues for each firefighter that lost their life at ground zero. Each statue will have the firefighters helmet number and name on it and will then be given to the families.
In New York City when a firefighter retires or is lost in a fire their helmet is given to the family. Many helmets were destroyed though in the rubble on Sept. 11. That's why John and his father are making bronze statues to replace those that were lost.
The funding for the firefighters memorial sculptures is based solely on donations. If you would like to help you can call John Weatherbee at (270) 843-4265.
