Butterflies, fish, and frogs are all classmates in one area classroom. It's part of an outdoor learning center at a Bowling Green Elementary School.
Mariah Young, a 4th grader at Potter Gray Elementary, has been studying hard lately but not necessarily with a textbook. Students at the school are building an outdoor classroom complete with a fishpond, bird feeders, and flower gardens. Teachers say going outside lets students learn science first hand.
Students study subjects like the different types of flowers and fish. And as the school year moves along students will also be working on installing a weather system. They will be able to predict the weather using their own equipment outside in the science lab.
