Since construction began on the Kentucky Tri-Modal Transpark traffic has gotten continuously heavier on the north side of town.
Monday a plan to alleviate some of those problems was put into place. Groundbreaking for the U.S 68 Safety Project was held Monday morning at Scotty's Warehouse and Distribution center.
Speakers at the event included Mayor Elaine Walker, Judge Executive Mike Buchanon, State Senator Brett Guthrie, State Representative Jim DeCesare, and Bristow Elementary teacher Karen Preston.
Preston says, "I'm just impressed that they have asked our opinion and what we think. And they are concerned about the school system and the parents who are driving on this road. And as more and more companies and businesses come here on this road I'm sure it's going to get worse."
The project will widen 31W to five lanes and three new traffic signals will be installed. Completion is scheduled for May 15.
