The race for Warren County Sheriff is just one of several highly contested races in our viewing area.

The 2002 Vote: Candidate Profile

Jerry "Peanuts" Gaines- Incumbent

  • Served 21 years as Warren Co. Sheriff
  • President, National Sheriff's Association
  • If Reelected: Plans to continue improving current department with programs, technology and additional school resource officers

    Allen Houchin- Challenger

  • Former KSP Officer (18 years)
  • Former WKU Police Officer
  • If elected: Promises more preventive and effective patrols, as well as timely response times to all calls

This race received media attention after candidate Allen Houchin released a lengthy packet of information accusing Sheriff Gaines of fraud, neglect and mismanagement of taxpayer funds.

Those allegations were addressed by the state auditor’s office during a routine audit of the Warren County Sheriff's Department. The audit revealed no criminal wrongdoing on behalf of Sheriff Gaines.

Houchin did submit the same packet of information to Kentucky State Police and the State Attorney General's Office, thus far neither agency has begun an investigation.
