With the help of an ordinary citizen, police nabbed the man they say robbed a Bowling Green bank within 15 minutes of his getaway Thursday afternoon.
Police say Wesley Mayhew, 31, walked into the Kentucky Trust Bank location on Fairview Avenue just before 1:40 p.m., wearing a sweatshirt, stocking cap, and sunglasses.
Though he never showed clerks a gun, he demanded money, loaded it up, and ran off on foot down the drive-thru driveway. Police say an anonymous citizen chased after Mayhew, but gave up after Mayhew jumped a fence into a neighboring backyard.
Police received a flood of calls from neighbors reporting Mayhew's escape through their neighborhood, and a swarm of officers found and captured him within 15 minutes of his escape.
Mayhew was booked into the Warren Co Regional Jail, and the money was recovered.
This is the third bank robbery within a four-block radius this year, and all have resulted in arrests.
"To date this year with the three robberies we've had and the three apprehensions that have been made in those cases, it really hasn't been a very lucrative crime," said Officer Barry Pruitt.
