Tax Tips

The calendar is getting closer to Uncle Sam’s deadline for filing your taxes.

April 15 is a week from Friday. That's the day taxes must be postmarked unless you file an extension.

The IRS says even if you are short on money to pay the government back, don't let that keep you from filing on time.

"It's very important that people file a tax return; if you can't pay, then file without paying and let us send you a bill, and send a phone number and set up a payment agreement.”

Brummer says you will save a lot of money in penalties if you file on time. For failing to file taxes on time, you must pay five percent per month on the unpaid balance.

For failing to pay taxes, you're only charged one half of one percent of unpaid balance.
