Camp for Terminally Ill Children is Coming to Scottsville

Camp Courageous, a multi-million dollar medical camp for terminally ill children, will make its home in Scottsville. The announcement followed a generous 141 acre donation from Betty Turner Campbell of the Dollar General founding Turner family. The land, on Burnley Road, will be used for construction of the 16-building camp.

The facility, set to open in 2008, will include lodges for campers, a recreation center, medical center, dining halls, petting zoo and swimming pools. It's one of only five camps of its kind in the country.

The donation driven camp will be free to ill children and their families, and is expected to attract more than 4,000 people each year.

Construction is set to begin in 2006.
