A group of people in Russellville say the traffic on 9th Street is threatening the safety on their neighborhood. More than 300 Russellville residents have signed a petition asking the city and county to reduce the traffic on the street.
They are asking that the speed limit be reduced and that legislation be passed making it illegal for hazardous materials to be transported through the residential area. The Russellville City Commission and Logan County Fiscal Court both voted unanimously to support the petition.
Now the Kentucky Department of Transportation is working on the proposal. They say they plan on putting up larger truck bypass signs. But they don't plan on reducing the speed limit, instead they say Russellville police needs to enforce the speed limit.
