Toyota Announces New Hybrid Cars in Kentucky

Toyota has announced plans to begin producing a gasoline-electric hybrid version of the Camry in late 2006 in Kentucky.

The Japanese automaker says it will have capacity to build about 48-thousand of the environmentally friendly vehicles each year at its Georgetown plant.

It represents Toyota's first hybrid auto production in North America.

Toyota says it plans a 10 million dollar investment in the Georgetown plant, but expects capacity and employment to stay the same.

The plant is 12 miles north of Lexington, and employs about seven thousand workers.
