"I was scared to death."

Janey Cummings isn't used to people being shot outside her apartment in the Econo-Lodge. Cummings says: "We heard a big old POW. We was watching TV and we came up to the door and there he was laying down on the ground."

The man she saw was Alfonso Contreras. He was wanted in Tennessee.

KSP Trooper Todd Holder says: "He is wanted for murder out of Smryna, Tennessee where the warrants originated from."

Bowling Green Police received information about Contreras working at a construction site on Scottsville Road.

Holder says: "The subject was encountered by Bowling Green Police Department and he fled on foot. Bowling Green put out a BOLO out for us to be looking for the subject in the area."

A Kentucky State Police Trooper then saw Contreras running on the I-65 northbound ramp.

Holder says: "When the trooper asked that he stop, tired to get him to halt, he brandished a firearm and pointed it in the troopers direction."

The trooper then fired one shot at Contreras, hitting him in the leg.

Cummings says: "I think he shot him in the leg. I seen blood on his pantsleg."

Cummings says he was lying on the ground on this pillow before the ambulance took him to the Medical Center. She says she and her 12-year old daughter have never seen anything so frightening.

Cummings says: "I told her to go in the house cause kids don't need to see things like that."

The trooper that shot Contreras was not injured. Contreras is now at the Kentucky State Police post being interviewed. He will face charges here and will also be sent back to Tennessee to face the murder charge there. After Contreras was taken to the Medical Center police worked for hours to re-create the scene.

Holder says: "What they are doing is working a total station. A total station is a pinpointing of every piece of evidence."

The total station can show where shell casings were fired from and where the subject fell. A diagram is then drawn to scale making it easier to present the evidence in court.
