A West Virginia preacher is dead after being bitten by a rattlesnake.

Pastor Mack Wolford died over the weekend from a snake bite in the thigh.

Wolford's familiar with the dangers of rattlesnakes, but he used them as part of his church sermons in Southern West Virginia.

The practice of snake handling is legal in West Virginia.

Wolford and his practices were the subject of an upcoming documentary.

Reverend Wolford was not immune to snake bites.

He had been bitten by a rattlesnake three times prior and survived.
