A pilot program to ensure medical officials could talk to each other in times of disaster, began in this area, with all of the eligible hospitals and health care facilities participating.
The facilities use satellite radios, when traditional communication fails. That way they can communicate information to other health care centers, even when the line are down.
Participating agencies include: The Barren River District Health Department, The Medical Centers in Bowling Green, Franklin, and Scottsville, Greenview Regional Hospital, TJ Samson Community Hospital, Caverna Memorial, Logan Memorial, Monroe County Medical, Rivendell, SkyCare, Lifeskills, and Emergency Management.
Now Governor Ernie Fletcher has announced more than three million dollars in funding for a back-up system for the all of the state's hospitals, health departments, and health care facilities.
