Smokers have one last chance to stock up on cheaper cigarettes before the state's cigarette tax goes up Wednesday.
Kentucky currently has the nation's lowest cigarette tax at three cents per pack. The tax goes up by 27 cents starting Wednesday.
Health advocates say they hope the higher tax will encourage smokers to kick the habit and discourage young people from taking it up. Kentucky has the nation's highest adult smoking rate.
One penny of the 27-cent increase will go for cancer research at the Universities of Kentucky and Louisville.
