South Central Kentucky tobacco farmers may see a brighter economic future after years of struggling to meet production quotas.
The Farm Service Agency in Bowling Green says farmers have been signing up for the tobacco buyout every day since it started in March.
If you aren't one of them, you better hurry, time is running out.
June 17th marks the deadline to sign up. Anytime after that, farmers will miss the first payment, which is scheduled to be distributed by September.
"We do know there will not be any late file signatures or applications accepted. June 17th is the deadline to sign up for the program. If you show up that day and we can't get to you before the we close, your name will be placed on a register. That is the only way you can sign up after the deadline."
All Kentucky counties are currently participating, but you have to sign up in the county where your farm records are maintained.
The Farm Service Agency in Bowling Green is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 - 4:30.
