Targeting Your Hometown: Russell County

By  |

Our first stop when arriving in Russell County, the Russell County tourism office, where we meet Director Portia Flowers Gosser. She seems to think there is so much to offer in the county that we can't just focus on one thing.

The Cumberland Lake attracts more than one point three million visitors each year. In fact Russell County is ranked number one in the Southern Kentucky Lakes and Rivers region. But besides Lake Cumberland, there is the National Fish Hatchery where fish are raised and redistributed in area lakes.

And within two years Jamestown will be adding tourism attractions after the state transportation department installs a by pass. Every spring people from all over the Midwest sift through one person's junk looking for their own treasure at the country's longest yard sale. But Portia says the real reason tourism is doing well in the country is due to the friendly people.
