Allen County's unemployment rate stood at 7.2 percent in October, which is much higher than the state average. That rate may be lowering. The J.M. Smucker Company announced intentions of bringing 150 jobs to the area.
In spring 2003 Smucker expects to break ground at a 50 acres site in Scottsville to start producing "Uncrustables" Sandwiches. The new facility will cost $51 million to build. Production is expected to begin Spring 2004.
