It’s no secret; most women are waiting later in life to start their families. Most women are taking their time getting an education, climbing the corporate ladder and finding the perfect man. But do pregnant “older” women have more complications when it comes to childbirth?
Bowling Green Gynecologist, Dr. Keith Hewitt says as women increase the age at which they conceive they also increase their chances of encountering problems. Dr. Hewitt says older mommies have a greater risk of having miscarriages and a cesarean section.
But Dr. Hewitt also says women in their 40s usually take more precautions and follow directions better. He says even though there is an increased risk for these women, he says with the right care most women can still have healthy babies even at a later age.
