The Girls Inc Summer Program is designed to keep the kids busy with productive projects, instead of being on the streets.

This year 200 girls are participating in the program, which is focusing on recreation and reading.

Patty Alford, the executive director of the program, says she wants the girls to focus on reading so they'll be prepared to go back to school in the fall.

Besides the educational aspects, Alford says this program gives many girls a safe place to spend their summers.

There are still a few openings in the summer program, which is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To sign up your child, you can call (270) 781-3549.
