Towing Scams

By  |

Bowling Green Police say the man called himself B.J., and claimed to work for AAA Towing, a company that apparently doesn't exist. He called Chick-Fil-A last Thursday afternoon, saying he was towing a car to McGown Tire & Service nearby, but wouldn't get there until after they closed.

When B.J. arrived at Chick-Fil-A, he gave them the keys to the car he allegedly had towed. He talked them into paying the $85.00 towing fee, saying McGown would reimburse them when they reopened. But when Chick-Fil-A talked to McGown, McGown was totally unaware of the transaction.

This same scam was pulled on Firehouse Pizza the following night, when a man claimed he was dropping a car off at nearby Walt's Allstate Transmission Service. If you know anything about these scams, please call Crime Stoppers at 781-CLUE. You do not have to give your name when you call.
