Suicide kills more Kentucky teens each year than AIDS and homicide combined.
But the negative stigma attached to depression and suicidal thoughts can often prevent someone in need from getting help.
Former Hilltopper basketball player Nathan Eisert is a tragic example. He took his life in his dorm room in June of 2002.
Now his mom, Jan Ulrich, is speaking out about the need for more suicide prevention resources.
"As we start pushing more to upgrade the resources and say 'No it's not OK if someone is having suicidal thoughts or in a suicidal crisis...it's not acceptable for there not to be help out there. We can turn that around," Ulrich said in a WBKO in-depth interview.
