During a news conference in Frankfort Monday morning, Governor Ernie Fletcher vowed to change the Merit Hiring system, a system that's supposed to protect state workers from political discrimination. Fletcher says the system is confusing and desperately needs updating.
"You've got a law that's so broad, you could drive a truck through it."
Governor Fletcher says he's asking the Task Force to make recommendations on how the state can move forward, and put this ordeal in the past.
Fletcher says he still believes the goals of the system are good, but the implementation has been less than desirable.
A report on the system should be released in October.
