Thomas D. Layzell, PhD, also told the Bowling Green Rotary Club, only 15 percent of Kentucky ninth-graders will make it through college to get their degree on time.

Compared to the rest of the world, Dr. Layzell says the United States ranks 16th in high school graduation rates. Denmark is first. The U.S. is 14th in the world in college graduation rates. Japan is first in that category.

Dr. Layzell says we must increase college enrollment, retention, and graduation in Kentucky, just to reach the projected national average of education level by the year 2020.
