Seventy neglected and starving horses are found on a farm in central Kentucky.

Animal control officers rescued the horses on Mar. 26 in Jessamine County.

Officials say almost all of the horses were living under one roof in horrible quarters and were barely alive.

The owner has been charged with 70 counts of animal cruelty.

If convicted, she could face up to a year in prison and a $500 fine for each count.

One year and 35000is not enough of a penalty for this person to face. What about the horror that those horses had to face? They should be taken away from her and she should lose the right to own ANY animal again, along with a tougher penalty. This is the land of horses, the number one money maker for this state, and that's all we can do to protect those poor animals? Something needs to be changed.

Kentucky needs to uphold the animal cruelty laws. There is no excuse for such inhumane acts. Up to one year in prison, for 70 lives doesn't seem like any kind of justice though. Penalties should be much tougher than a slap on the wrist!
