Alcohol went on sale in Central City for the first time in sixty years on Oct. 4. Since then, eight stores have sold almost $400,000 in alcohol.
The massive sales are a surprise to City Administrator David Rhoades.
The city has collected about $11,500 in tax on the sales, receiving three percent for every dollar spent on alcoholic beverages.
Rhoades expects the novelty of purchasing alcohol to wear off soon which would allow more realistic sales figures to be obtained.
