Louisville police are investigating the shooting deaths of two young children.

The youngsters' bodies were found at a home in south Louisville early on Mar. 27.

Officer Phil Russell of Louisville Metro Police says the children were found dead, after University Police asked city officers to check on them.

Russell says that request came after University Police disarmed a woman on campus.

A "safety alert" posted on the school's website described the armed person as a student.

A university spokeswoman said that could not be confirmed.

One neighbor describes what he heard.

"I let the dog out to go to the bathroom," recalled the neighbor.

"I was standing there at my back door, waiting for her to go to the bathroom, and I heard a BOOM."

Police have not released identifications or the relationship between the armed student and the children.
