Voters won't get the chance in November to determine whether casinos will come to Kentucky.

Governor Steve Beshear announced on March 27 the casino bill is dead.

With time running out on this session, the votes just weren't there.

The Speaker of the House says lawmakers' focus on the budget took away from efforts to pass the casino bill.

"We just didn't have time to talk with our members and try to get more votes because we had to spend so much time on the budget," said Jody Richards, Speaker of the House.

The bill called for placing nine casinos across the state, but didn't guarantee any of them would be placed at racetracks.

The state faces a $900-million shortfall over the next two years .

Beshear had said casinos would bring in $600-million a year in tax revenue.

If the Governor is that worried about the budget shortfall, why don't he loose the helicopter. That would save over one million per year. $599 mil is better that $600 mil.
