Yesterday's heavy rains in Christian County caused the death of a 10-year-old girl, who was swept away by floodwaters. Authorities found Deanna Petsch's body last night, after they say she fell into rushing water. She was playing with a friend in a drainage ditch that was filled with high water.
Search and rescue squads were out near Airport Road for several hours, before finding her body.
Scott Daniel, with the Hopkinsville Fire Department, says: "We worked for nearly seven hours on what in the beginning was a rescue and turned into recovery."
Authorities say the 10-year-old traveled 500 feet from where she first slipped under the water.
