People caught driving off without paying for their gasoline could face a bigger penalty under a bill that has cleared the Kentucky House.

The bill would allow retailers to impose a $30.00 service charge on top of the amount owed at the gas pump.

Violators failing to make those payments within 30 days after receiving notice could also face a civil penalty of up to $100.00

The bill won House passage on a 90-to-7 vote on March 29.

The measure returns to the Senate where it originated for possible action on changes by the House.

I understand not paying for gas is stealing, and yes people should be punished, but maybe the gas prices should not continue to jump because people are making decisions that they would not other wise make if they could afford it.

The issue of drive off motorists can be easily addressed with the implemention of a bill that requires all pumps in the state be "pre-pay". Bowling Green currently has such an ordinance that has eliminated the monetary loss derived by drive offs.

ABOUT THE "GAS" CUT BACK WITH THE KY STATE POLICE, WHY IS IT THAT THE BG POLICE ARE ALLOWED TO "TAKE" THE CITY'S CAR TO THEIR HOME. NOTICE ONE LIVES 6-MILES INTO LOGAN COUNTY; ANOTHER LIVES NEAR ALLEN COUNTY LINE. WHY ARE THEY LEAVING THE CITY LIMITS WITH THESE CARS ?????
