Monroe County's efforts to bring more jobs to the area took a big step forward today.
Governor Ernie Fletcher announced a new $5.6 million dollar state grant to help reconstruct Highway 163 to Highway 90.
That money comes on top of another $5.6 million grant, which means the project now has more than $11 million to begin buying right of way.
"If you're looking at economic development, looking at creating jobs, you're going to have to first improve the roadway to make sure it's wide enough, and can provide the support for traffic for economic development industries to come in," Fletcher said.
Construction will begin within 18 months.
