This year Bowling Green celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Corvette, the most popular sports car in America. But while that commemoration takes place, the birth of a new car make takes place as well.
The Cadillac XLR, which will roll off the assembly line in May, is a combination of a performance car and a luxury car. Its features include a retractable hardtop with a driver shift control. Its chassis includes a rigid rail structure that was patterned after that of the Corvette. The car will even have itsown entertainment center and DVD player.
The XLR will serve as a primary competitor to the Mercedes-Benz and the Lexus. While the plant's manager could not confirm what the retail price would be, he said that it would likely run a bit higher than the Lexus SC450, which retails for around $65, 000.
