- " As a former Californian who has been in numerous quakes, it is important for viewers to know that just because there was an earthquake this morning, doesn't mean there will be a larger one later. It is VERY possible that this quake was merely relieving pressure along the fault line. This small quake may have prevented a larger one. This small quake may indeed be a blessing.
-Tereia Wells

"I was asleep on an air bed in my living room and thought someone was trying to come through my back door!!! I saw the hall light come on and my daughter said "Did you hear that?" We immediately started calling WBKO as was everyone else I guess cause we couldn't get through."
- Tina Green

-" I live in Dover, TN and we felt the earthquake this morning.
I am a light sleeper and at first I did not realize what it was until everything started shaking. It woke my husband out of a dead sleep.
It shook walls and floors! Just wanted to let the station know it was felt farther than Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana."
-Chrissetta Logan

" Wow earthquakes! I didn't know you guys had them out here. I was born in Southern California and got woke up from a sound sleep. I was having a dream about home, the first thing I thought was EARTHQUAKE, but then I thought naw, then blamed the dog for scratching and moving the bed."
-Lori from Bowling Green

" My 9-year-old daughter Summer woke me up sometime between 4-5 a.m. saying her whole bed was shaking really bad. She thought the wind was blowing, but I knew it was not. I assumed she had a bad dream.
- Valerie

" We live in the Leatherwood and Permission Community of Tompkinsville and we felt the quake. It shook my mother's house and my sister's house. I feel like they think we are too far away to feel it, but we did and the last time we had one on this fault line we felt it.
-Joanne Mahaney

" I felt a small tremor around 10:15 last night. It should the light in my house. A few other people felt it as well in the Mount Olivet area."
- Sueann Garrett

" I was sleeping and then all of a sudden I felt my bed shaking and the walls! I heard the dishes rattling! I didn't know what was going on it scared me at first. But there was no damage done, just the shaking of pictures on the wall."
- Lorane Gardner

"Yes, it was scary this morning here in Center, Kentucky as well. I had awakened just before so I was partially awake when my bed started shaking...sort of up and down and rolling at the same time. I've never felt it this strong before and it felt like our double wide was shaking pretty good. My two dogs in the living room began to bark and neighbor dogs."
- Pat Carter

Dogs woke me up barking outside so when I went and let them in I got back in bed and a few seconds later heard a rumbling sound and the bed started to shake and the windows clinked. I did not find any damage.
-Barbara Cummings Glasgow, Ky

" I was up about 4:30 this morning when I heard the commotion. I thought it was the wind. It was over pretty quickly so I decided it wasn’t the wind and maybe it was the water heater. There was just a rattling. An earthquake didn’t even cross my mind. We live in Caneyville on the Caney Creek Church Rd.
-The Stewarts

" I heard all my dishes shake and the floor shake. Well, I have 2 cats. They realized it before I did, and ya know, it must be instinct to get off the ground, cause both my cats at the same time ran and jumped ontop of the the kitchen table. I wondered what they were running from and must of felt it before I actually felt it.
- Madonna May

" Thanks for covering the EARTH QUAKE!!! We live on the 3rd floor here at the B&B and REALLY felt the house move this morning!
- Dave & Sharon Dahle

" My husband and I woke up before 4:00, because we heard an unusual noise. It sounded like the treadmill in our bedroom was shaking. It lasted about 3 or 4 seconds (no where near as strong as the later one).We thought it might be a mouse, so we got up and turned the light on to check. We couldn't find anything, so we went back to bed for a few minutes. My husband got up to feed about 4:30 and minutes later I was awaken by the house shaking. I knew immediately at that point it was an earthquake. My husband was in the barn and he said the barn gates were rattling. I am wondering if the noise we heard about 30-45 minutes earlier was a small tremor as well. Any other reports of an earlier one?
- Shari Alexander

The motion was very strong at my house at 4:30(ish). The tub on the clothes dryer rumbled like it was starting to dry clothes for a second or two. I live West of Albany on Hwy 553, the Wisdom Dock Road.
-Diane Cross

" As I was getting reading for school this morning, I felt the earthquake this morning at around 4:30. We live in Plano."
- Kathy

" The earthquake woke me up this morning. It lasted so long that I was fully awake and not real sure what was going on. We have a motion sensitive security light and it was on. We have a cat who usually sleeps all night, but he was up running through the house. Sort of creepy, I think I will be more dilligent on getting my emergency kit ready.
Thanks for the coverage."
- Jane Clark

" At around 5:35 to 5:40 in the Brownsville area we were getting ready for work when the whole house began to shake for about 15-30 seconds. We called family that live 2 miles away and they were awakened from bed by the same shaking of the whole house."
- Paul Brock

"About 4:37 this morning we were awakened by our house shaking and our sliding closet doors rattling."
-Faye Pare

" My wife was fast asleep and jumped up out of bed 3 rooms over and ask me if we were having an earthquake. Thank you."

" I was actually awake this morning when the earthquake happened. I did not feel any shaking, but I did note that the dogs in the surrounding area were being quite vocal. I need to do a bit of research to find out if there was any activity last night just after dinner. I felt something then that was unsettling, but never equated it with an earthquake at that point. My Dad was in the Air Force and we were in Alaska when the big one hit. "
- Kathie

" Wow, what a scare. I was in the office and everything was shaking and I thought that it was someone outside rolling trash cans."
- Amy

"I woke up this morning at 4:30 a.m. In just a few minutes, 4:36 a.m. is what my clock showed, we felt shaking. It lasted for 10 seconds or so and was the strangest feeling I have ever experienced. My daughter's room is a few feet from mine and I have a monitor in her room so I can hear her throughout the night. The sound that monitor made was amazing. It just magnified the rumbling sound. The entire house shook, though nothing fell or was misplaced. We live within 2 miles of Ensign Bickford, which produces explosives. I told my husband that I thought we had just experienced an earthquake. He thought it was possibly an explosive from Ensign Bickford, but the entire house and ground just shook, nothing like I have ever felt before. I'm thankful we are safe. Sure makes one think. You do a great job at WBKO. Keep up the good work."
- Kelly Stroud

" I was awoken by my house rattling enough that my wall decorations were vibrating against the walls."
- Gloria Dockery

"Im a heavy sleeper but this earthquake woke me up."Then I fell back asleep."

Posted by: Amanda Location: Bowling Green on Apr 18, 2008 at 04:10 PM
I was awake for the whole thing (which was NOT 5-10 seconds as some reports I've heard are saying). 1st noticed my floor shaking and then tried to figure out why that was. Then it got worse; things started rattling, the dogs started barking, the cats came out of nowhere, windchimes playing beautifully & I sat here looking around the room with only my eyeballs wondering what the heck was going on. The whole thing lasted between 30 & 45 seconds. Once it was over, I got up, opened the front door, to see what the weather was like - NO wind (remember the windchimes?). Figured it HAD to be an earthquake and started trying to find confirmation of that somewhere. Finally found it a bit later. Whew! I'm NOT crazy! What a relief!

I live in an older home and didn't realize it was an earth quake in sleepy Rocky Hill........I thought someone had broken into my house from the noise and popping of the home.......weird.

Posted by: Sherri Location: Glasgow on Apr 18, 2008 at 01:34 PM
I woke up to the whole house vibrating as if my 10-year-old son were running and jumping in his room (as he often does-- which jars the whole house). I got up to go find out what he was doing out of bed so early to find him fast asleep. Convinced it was a dream, I went back to bed for the precious hour of rest I had left. When I got to school, I learned it was a quake. Then at my desk-- around 10:15ish...items on my desk (especially the pc monitor) began vibrating...an aftershock, possibly? It was strange!

I missed the big one last night but I work at a lighting showroom & I was sitting here this morning at about 10:15 and the mirrors and the shelves on the walls started shaking! It only lasted for about 5 seconds(that's the way it seemed anyway) but it was weird!

This brings back memories. I was in the 1989 quake that hit in California during the world series. I was only 5, but i remember like it was yesterday. Lets just pray that one that big never hits this area.

I was awaken by my bed shaking but I thought it was my daughter shaking the bed to wake me up for something but when I looked around to see what she wanted, no one was there. My dog was barking though. Our dog sleeps with my daughter. Anyway, later, my daughter got up for school and told me that her bed started shaking and it woke her up and that our dog was barking during it. We started to check the news and calling people. We found out it was an earthquake after speaking to other people. It happened so fast. Thank goodness it wasnt a bad one.

LAST NIGHT APPROX 10:15-10:30, THERE WERE ALSO TREMORS. THE FARM ANIMALS AND DOGS WERE ACTING STRANGLEY LAST NIGHT APPROX 8:00 AND SOME PERIODS THROUGH THE NIGHT BEFORE THE EARLY MORN. QUAKE. I WAS IN LOUISVILLE IN 1968 WHEN THAT ONE HIT- ABOUT THE SAME REACTION.

I sleep with a C-pap machine and usually don't hear anything. The quake woke me up as my house was shaking for at least 10 seconds. Initially, I thought it was a truck driver down the street starting his semi, but soon realized it was an earthquake

Posted by: Robin Location: Leitchfield,Ky on Apr 18, 2008 at 11:50 AM
Me and my family were staying the night at my parents-which is about 4 miles outside Leitchfield,I remember feeling a light shake, but thought I was dreaming. Then I was woke up to some pretty hard shaking and rattaling,It was frightning-Definatly not used too this type of thing.

we live in the sugar grove community in butler county ky. at about 4:30am i sat straight up in bed and felt and heard the tremor. my husband slept throught it. our dog barked and just kept doing this little low bark/growl for several minutes. my daughter also felt it and woke up before it actually started shaking. last nightmaybe our outside dog kept running around on the porch and barking,my husband went out to see what was wrong with him. i think you knew something was coming,a few hours in advance. we just felt another one this morning around 10:20am. it shook the whole house too. the grandfather clock was really shaking and chimming. javetta cox

We jumped out of the bed at 4:36 thinking the group of peple jumping on the roof or explosion. It was scary until we heard breaking news at WBKO few minutes later. I always thinked that new technology can notice in advance the earthquake.

My husband and I felt the quake around 4:30 this morning. We thought something had gone off on the WK Parkway, since we live so close to it. We never thought of an earthquake, though. I have lived in Alaska and have felt a quake and this morning's was nothing like the ones in Alaska.

I live in Hadley, ky. I felt the tremor about 4:30 which lasted about 15 sec. then it was followed by another a minute or so later. At first I thought it was thunder but I opened the door and there was no sign of a storm and realized it was an earthquake. We had a small tremoragain at 10:15am.
