Jordan Gray Wins Blue Ribbon for Country Ham

"I'm at the fair for my country ham project."

This is the second time 14-year-old Jordan Gray, of Metcalfe County, has competed in the 4-H country ham competition. He says he's not a bit nervous.

"I went to Scottsville to cure my own country ham. It took about a couple of months to do. We went and picked out our ham. It was fun. Real fun!"

Jordan is competing against some of his fellow classmates from Metcalfe County. He's also up against sisters Carla and Kayla Ritter and Adam Fife, of Barren County.

"We have to give a three to five minute speech to tell them what our ham is like. I'm excited!"

Jordan says it isn't hard to do.

"You put a bunch of salt on it. You put it in a smoke room for a couple of days, and it's ready."

His hard work paid off. The judges in the 4-H Country Ham competition awarded Jordan with a blue ribbon.
