Dozens of emaciated horses and horse remains were discovered on a farm in Mason County, Kentucky.

A tip prompted investigators with the nearby Lewis County SPCA to take a closer look at the property.

The horses were found dead or decomposed, stacked on top of each other and dumped in a creek.

Investigators believe they starved to death.

At least 60 more horses are still alive, but many are near death and in need of medical attention and food.

"The remains that we're aware of is approximately 30 in number, including mostly adults and colts, and what we need to do is because some of the bodies are stacked on top of some of the bodies," stated one investigator.

Charges have not yet been filed against the owner of the horses.

Animal cruelty investigators say they hope to work with the owner to nurse his remaining animals back to health.
