BGMU's board recently approved a rate increase of 7.5 percent that will take effect Oct. 1.
However, more fees may be approaching. The board recently tabled a proposal to add a $3 convenience fee to customers who pay with a credit card.
Gary Bridges, the CFO, says, "We have approximately 26, almost 27,000 customers, and only around 2,000 are paying by credit card."
Bridges says those customers are costing the company money.
Bridges says since the companies charge BGMU a percentage fee for credit card transactions, they are thinking about passing that fee along to credit card paying customers.
Bridges says, "We are not allowed to pass that percentage on, we are allowed by law to charge a convenience fee."
Board member Mark Alcott says he wants to make sure the customers are looked out for and most businesses don't charge a fee.
Bridges says BGMU is a non-profit organization and it is simply trying to get back the extra money it spends on the fees each year. He adds under this proposal, only those who pay by credit card will be charged.
Bridges says the issue will be discussed again at the next board meeting on Oct. 17. It's at the Bowling Green City Chambers at 7 p.m. and it's open to the public.
