Central Kentucky police say a man who may have mistaken his son for a turkey shot and killed the 14-year-old while they were hunting.

Oldham County Police Department spokesman Matt Cornell says police believe the shooting on May 4 was nothing but a tragic accident while the father and son were turkey hunting.

No charges have been filed.

Cornell says the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

He told The Courier-Journal that the father may have mistaken his son's movements and appearance for a turkey and fired his shotgun.

The identities of the father and son haven't been released pending notification of family members.

People can say what they want, but the bottom line is that the man has lost his son and he will have to live with that for the rest of his life.
