A Senate committee conducted a hearing on cancer May 8.

Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards was among those who testified.

Edwards, who is fighting breast cancer said the government has a moral obligation to take care of uninsured and under-insured people with cancer.

"We know how to lengthen and improve the lives of people with cancer, but we've chosen as a nation to turn our backs on some of us who have the disease. I urge you to reform health care responsibly and morally and aggressively and save millions of us," said Edwards.

Championship cyclist Lance Armstrong also testified.

He said the fight against cancer needs to be ruthless and relentless, just like the disease.

He encouraged the Senate to renew the war on cancer so that future generations don't have to face it.
