As the results came back on May 20 that Senator David Boswell had defeated Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire, there was hardly anytime to celebrate before he began preparing for his next opponent, Senator Brett Guthrie.

"It's on to November and we need your help," Boswell told a crowd of family members and supporters.

Boswell has already started campaigning for the general election after defeating Democrat Reid Haire, with 59-percent of the votes in the race for the Second Congressional District.

"I called Senator Boswell and extended to him my sincerest congratulations and offered to help him in the fall race for the seat to upend the Republicans and to take that seat back for the Democrats," Haire said.

But, there's one man who Senator Boswell will now have to defeat, Republican Senator Brett Guthrie.

"I have young children. That was a big concern about running, but we decided that we need to leave our children the great care our parents left us and that's why I'm in this race," Guthrie said.

Senator Guthrie says there are many big issues people are concerned about that he plans on addressing, Including the economy and gas prices.

"It's been tough. I'm in the automotive business and with fuel prices high and manufacturing, it's a difficult time in manufacturing and that's one thing that I bring to the race that I understand it," said Guthrie.

He says his first piece of legislation would be helping family members of military men and women who die in the war to get benefits as if they're loved ones are still active duty.

"Because they didn't leave active duty because they're choice. They left active duty because they were serving us," said Guthrie.

Meanwhile, Senator Boswell Is also looking ahead to the big issues he will address.

"Affordable health care, our situation in Iraq, the illegal immigration issue, and I can go on and on, the $9-trillion debt that we have," said Boswell.

He says he's ready to take on that challenge.

"There's just some work to be done in Washington and I want to be the Congressman to roll my shirt sleeves up and work," said Boswell.

Boswell says he looks forward to having a good, clean campaign with Guthrie.

Guthrie says, he too is looking forward to the general election and a busy campaign.
