Every year the American Legion post in Falmouth holds a ceremony on Memorial Day weekend honoring the men and women who died serving our country, but this year, the group of veterans wanted to do something special to honor the life of 16-year-old Daniel Wood.

Daniel Wood was a Pendleton County student and ROTC member killed in a tragic bus crash on May 1.

Daniel's mother was present to receive a special plaque recognizing her son's accomplishments in the Navy Junior ROTC, and so were his former fellow cadets.

"He was here, he was in our hearts, he was watching and probably giving a big 'Oooh Rah,' that's our motto, we're Navy," said Pendleton Co. Navy JROTC member, Monica Keeton.

"I know he was, he was sitting on a cloud watching us"

With permission of Daniel's mother, the ROTC cadets of Pendleton County High School will place a memorial at the crash site.
