Memorial Day may signal vacation time for many, however, it is meant as a day of reflection.

We found out more on one local community that now has a special place to remember their veterans.

Last Sunday, May 18, a wall in commemoration of veterans was dedicated in Rosine.

The plan has been in place since 2000 and is now a reality that has been visited by many veterans and people wishing to honor those who have fought for our country.

"There used to be an old house that sat here on the corner, and it was in need of repair," said James "J.T." Taylor, a Vietnam veteran.

"When it came down we decided that we were going to take this corner and make it beautiful."

Taylor and other community members decided to build a monument in Rosine for veterans both living and those who have passed.

"They're all veterans," said Taylor.

"Some of them go back as far as the Civil War and all the way up to Afghanistan and also Iraq."

Taylor proudly remembers the Purple Heart he received after being injured while on guard at night.

He is now retired from CSX railroad, and several names on the wall hold a special meaning for him.

"Well they're all special," said Taylor.

"Yeah, there are some on there that are special to me. As a matter of fact my name's on there, too, but I've got nephews, cousins, and very good friends that are on there, too."

Taylor also added that the wall has a broad reach.

"It's not just for Rosine," said Taylor.

"It's for the whole area surrounding Rosine, and it's not just for a few of us. It's for everyone."

But the main purpose for the wall rings true for all veterans on this Memorial Day weekend.

"Those that gave some, and some that gave all, and it was all so that we can be free," said Taylor.

Taylor added he is glad they now have something to show both love and respect to those that helped gain freedom for our country.
