Volunteer Accuses Butler County Animal Shelter of Unnecessary Euthanizations
Last year, a three week renovation of the Butler County Animal Shelter led to a strong effort by the facility to find homes for all their pets. One Morgantown animal shelter volunteer, however, is claiming un-necessary euthanizations have started to take place in recent weeks.

I suppose everyone knows by now that the above mentioned David Howery was just convicted of 285 counts of animal cruelty. Every animal in his "rescue operation" was either dying, dead or covered in mange. Something to think about.

KY animal lovers need to come together and stop the killing of these poor innocent animals. I hear this type of thing is also happening in my hometown of Madisonville, KY., but local residents are afraid to come out for fear of retaliation. From a few people I've spoken with in KY, this is a common occurence. Very sad. We need to get a law passed (and enforced) electing our Humane Society employees. That way we would have people in there that really care about the welfare of these animals. Kudos to Ann and people like her that are concerned about saving lives not ending them!

Seeing how upset Ann was on the news shows me that she truly cares about the animals. Why would she lie about something to do with the animals when she knew it would result in no longer being able to help them? To me, all it sounded like she wants to do is help the animals find homes and she was truly heartbroken on how the "business" was ran. Besides, I thought this place was a NO KILL shelter yet I hear of animals being euthanized anyway? That's not very appropriate if you ask me. Also, to refer to an animal shelter as a "Business" irks me. Animals are not a business, they are living creatures who deserve proper care. I'm appalled by all of this and am glad I have never taken any animals to this place. I hope this place is monitored very well from now on if it doesn't get shut down and the animals are taken care of the way they should have been all along. A thanks goes out to Ann for trying to do the right thing by letting people know about it and helping the animals she did help.

If Judge Fields is so sure that everything is being done correctly, why won't he return calls or emails from many, many rescues and transporters? Why won't he let Ann continue with all the good work she is doing and why is she not allowed to talk with the volunteer inmates? I know the answer to that one and I address it below. I don't believe the person who volunteers there to wash the dogs. I spoke with Ann personally and was told how an inmate who volunteers there on work release, attested to Franklin Morris having two sheltie pups euthed because he was attacked. The inmate stated that was not the truth and they were nothing but friendly. I believe the inmate, above Judge Fields and Morris's credibility from what I have heard from a very reliable source that volunteers there. Who would believe that two sheltie pups were vicious anyways? There is something very, very shady going on there. Does anyone know who is above Judge Fields?

When things ar kept hidden there is a good reason to start asking questions. If there is nothing bad going on there why is there so much secrecy and why is Ann being kept out. Obviously Judge Fields and Franklin Morris do not have the animals best interst at heart. To consider a companion animal a business is shady business at best.

If Judge Fields attributes the 90% rescue rate to Ann - then perhaps he should be listening more closely to what she has to say now. If they aren't "hiding" any of their actions, why is she banned from the isolation area?

I am a volunteer at the Butler County Animal Shelter. Franklin Morris has been working there for a very short time but in that short time he has had every animal checked out for anything they might have. In no cases has he put down any dogs that a rescue group was coming for unless they were dying. I am the one who gives all the dogs a bath there too,so I personally know that the dogs are not dirty.

As a CT rescue, that knows 1st hand how hard Ann works to save these dogs, I am saddened by the fact that she will no longer be able to assist as she has in the past. I also know that that 90% save rate will decline rapidly! This HIGH save rate is TOTALLY due to her efforts.
