Law enforcement officers across the state have been recognized this month for National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and on Friday officers in Warren County had their own service.

Officers from around the area remembered officers who have lost their lives while in the line of duty.

This included Bowling Green Master Police Officer David Whitson, who was killed in 2006.

They also honored their fellow officers for the job they do.

"We come out everyday not knowing if we're gonna make it home each night and for that sacrifice that the officers make, it's important that the community and their fellow officers recognize that and support them through their careers," says Bowling Green Police Sergeant Shawn Helbig.

Officers across the country have been holding these services since being enacted by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
